The structure
Progetto Continenti is a private association in law, qualified by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to operate in international development cooperation and to operate in Italy in the field of awareness raising and information activities on development issues.
The purpose and objectives of the association are defined in the statute, together with its administrative rules.
The Partners' Assembly is the sovereign body that discusses and decides on the general strategy as regards issues and geographic areas of intervention; it also elects the National Council and approves the yearly budget.
To become a member you have to apply to the National Council after at least one year of activity in support of the association. The National Council is the governing body that sets out the annual budget, discusses and decides on the choice of projects in Italy and in the developing countries. It also decides on recruitment of staff and takes care of relations with local groups. The councillors are elected every three years by the Partners' Assembly.
The Board of Auditors is the controlling body for the association's strategy, for its accounting and bookkeeping, and for drafting the annual budget.
The annual financial report is certified by external auditors.
The Local Groups Committee is another statutory organ; it is composed of delegates from Local Groups, and meets once a year. The Local Groups Committee coordinates and plans local activities.
The main working structure of Progetto Continenti is the national headquarters based in Rome that is directed and coordinated by one Director appointed by the National Council.

Each office is coordinated by a responsible person and is also supported by temporary stagers and volunteers.
Within the national headquarters, there is also the area of Progetto Continenti dedicated to Fair Trade.
