Progetto Continenti plans and carries out projects for self-development in different areas of developing countries. Programs and projects are defined with partner organizations in the countries where we operate (other NGOs, key religious groups or community bodies) and based on a diligent examination of the needs of the local community and the necessary conditions to achieve successful support. Our projects are sponsored in part by public and private institutions as the European Union, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, local governments, foundations and private business, and in part by members, friends and many private citizens who donate through financial contributions and voluntary work.

Progetto Continenti is well rooted within Italy, thanks to the activity of the Local Groups, spread across a large part of the Italian territory from south to north.

The areas of the world where we operate are:

Latin America, especially in Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Cuba and Brazil.

South East Asia, in Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar (ex-Burma).

Africa, in Ethiopia.

So far in these countries we have undertaken over a hundred projects, some completed and others ongoing. We promote total human development, and therefore favour multi sectorial interventions and areas most severely affected by poverty. The sectors in which we operate are:

Education and training: construction of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, professional training centres, popular education, professional training.

Health and Environment: construction of medical facilities, courses for community health professionals (nursing staff, midwives) AIDS prevention, professional medical training and education, medical equipment, regular medicine, drinking water supplies, courses on environmental protection and improvement.

Productive Development: support of the local economy through micro credit, training courses and support of handicraft and trade, formation of cooperatives and community organization.

Agricultural Development: professional training and support in livestock and fishery management, agricultural training courses, biological crop growing.

Home and Habitat: house construction and improvement, and building rehabilitation after natural disasters.

Human Rights: training courses for communities damaged by military conflicts and civil wars.

In Italy we help spread a culture of solidarity and peace through educational projects on globalization and through hundreds of awareness activities carried out by our local groups of volunteers, members and friends.
